Etymologie
Aus der Tupi-Sprache paraua (= Fleck), und piranga (= rot), und bezieht sich auf sechs rot gepunktete Längsstreifen an den Flanken lebender Exemplare. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Brasilien: Einzugsgebiet des rio Aripuanã, oberes Einzugsgebiet des Rio Madeira, Bundesstaat Mato Grosso.
