Etymologie

Benannt zu Ehren von Georg Wilhelm Steller (1709-1746), einem deutschen Arzt und Naturforscher, der in Russland arbeitete und die die Halbinsel Kamtschatka erforschte (die Typuslokalität dieser Art) und der in einem unveröffentlichten Manuskript die Gattung Chirus für den Grünling vorschlug.

Verbreitung

Nordpazifik und angrenzende Arktis: Japanisches Meer nördlich bis Beringmeer und Tschuktschensee, dann südlich bis Washington (U.S.A.).
