Etymologie
Kombiniert aus den Wörtern gobio (= Grundel), bezogen auf die grundelartige Form von Gobiocichla wonderi, und cichla vom griechischen kichle, historisch angewendet sowohl auf Drosseln (Aves) als auch auf Lippfische (Labridae, von denen früher angenommen wurde, dass sie eng mit Cichliden verwandt sind), wird jetzt nur noch auf Cichliden angewendet.
