Rupestre (= zwischen Felsen lebend), Anspielung nicht erklärt, bezieht sich wahrscheinlich auf seinen Lebensraum aus Kies und Geröll. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
USA: Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama und Mississippi (südöstliche U.S.A.). Die Nominalform ist verbreitet vom Einzugsgebiet des unteren Tombigbee in Alabama bis zum oberen Einzugsgebiet des Tombigbee in Mississippi und dem Einzugsgebiet des Black Warrior.

Gefahren für diese Art: Der Lebensraum in größeren Flüssen ist durch Aufstauungen stark reduziert worden, aber die meisten Lebensräume und Populationen in Bächen und mittleren Flüssen sind sicher.
