Etymologie

Smaragdus (= Smaragd), in Anlehnung an "Emeralda", einen seiner lokalen Namen in Kuba, der sich vielleicht auf seinen grünlich-braunen Körper und seine Flossen bezieht. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Verbreitung

Westlicher Atlantik: North Carolina bis Südwest-Florida, Kuba, Jungferninseln, Belize, Venezuela bis Rio Grande do Sul, Brasilien.
