Holotypus: FMNH 57825 [ex CM 6808].
Paratypen: (13) FMNH 57826 (10); UMMZ [von FMNH 57826] (1); CAS-SU 17513 [von FMNH 57826, ex CM 6809] (1).
Typusfundort: Rio Itapicurú bei Queimadas, Brasilien.
Etymologie
Von heteros (= verschieden); oura (= Schwanz), bezieht sich vermutlich auf die beschuppte Schwanzflossenbasis beim Männchen, unbeschuppt beim Weibchen. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
São Francisco und Parnaíba Flussbecken und zum Atlantik fließende Flüsse in Brasilien.
