Typen
Syntypen: AMS I.12518 (1); QM I.1563 (1).
Typusfundort: Vor Pine Peak und Cape Gloucester, südliches Queensland, Australien.
Etymologie
Der Name monostigma ist aus dem griechischen, von monos für "einzeln" und stigma (= Fleck), in Bezug auf den charakteristischen violetten bis schwarzen Fleck zwischen den letzten drei Stacheln der Rückenflosse dieser Art.
Verbreitung
Endemisch für Nord-Australien und der West-Papua-Region von Ost-Indonesien, im Süden reicht die Verbreitung bis zu Rowley Shoals vor West-Australien und Port Curtis, Queensland, an Australiens Ostküste. Lebt auf Sand-, Schlamm-, offenen Geröll- und Weich-Böden, in gemischten Lebensräumen in Tiefen von 1-90 m.

Status: Stand 14.09.2017: LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
