Etymologie
Benannt nach Durin dem Todlosen, dem ältesten der sieben Väter der Zwerge in Tolkiens Legende von Mittelerde "Herr der Ringe", was sich auf die geringe Größe der Arten in dieser Untergattung bezieht; glanis (= Wels: (Silurus glanis)), jetzt als allgemeiner Ausdruck für Wels verwendet.
