Etymologie
Heteros (= verschieden); pleurus (= der Seite), bezogen auf „punktierte“ Seiten, „die Chromatophoren im mittleren Bereich zwischen Dorsale und Anale, die entlang der Septen gesammelt sind; eine mittlere Reihe von Chromatophoren entlang der Seiten“. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Guyana, Surinam und Nordbrasilien: Einzugsgebiete der Flüsse Corantijn, Essequibo und Negro.
