Typen
Holotypus: UMMZ 102144.
Paratypen: UMMZ 102145 (3).
Typusfundort: Tümpel am Straßenrand, 3 Kilometer südlich von Progreso, Yucatán, Südost-Mexiko.
Etymologie
Von altior (= höher), bezieht sich vermutlich auf "ungewöhnlich hohe" Flossen. (Übersetzt aus The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Nordwestliche Halbinsel Yucatan. Keine Auffindungen an ihrer östlichen Küste, entgegen Schmitter-Soto (1998), noch im Zentrum von Campeche, entgegen Torres-Castro et al. (2009).
