Typusfundort: Mittelamerika (Pazifik).
Etymologie
Zu Ehren des deutschen Botanikers Berthold Carl Seemann (1825-1871) benannt, der die Typusexemplare sammelte. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Ariopsis seemanni kommt in Brack- und Seewasser, von El Salvador bis Panama (Ostpazifik) vor. In Panama ist sie häufig in Gezeitenflüssen und Salzpfannen mit hohem Salzgehalt, wurde aber nicht von Süßgewässern berichtet.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 18.07.2017: NE LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Grund für die Gefährdung: Es sind keine großen Bedrohungen für diese Art bekannt. Diese Art für die kleine kommerzielle Fischerei wichtig. Sie wurde in der Existenzfischerei seit vorkolumbianischen Zeiten verwendet.
