Von argos (= strahlend, hell, glänzend oder schnell); nectes (= Schwimmer), Anspielung nicht erklärt, möglicherweise ein Bezug auf die überwiegend silerfarbenen Fische, die aufgrund ihrer torpedoförmigen Gestalt schnell schwimmen können?
