Etymologie
–oides (= in der Form), vorgeschlagen als Untergattung von Amia, ein nicht-binominaler Name, der von Gronow (1763) auf Apogon angewendet wurde, jetzt ein häufig verwendetes Namensanhängsel in der Familie.
