Etymologie
Poly (= viele); lepis (= Schuppe), bezieht sich vermutlich darauf, dass diese Art im Vergleich zu Mugilogobius obliquifasciatus (= Hemigobius hoevenii), seinem damals vermuteten Verwandten, der in derselben Abhandlung beschrieben wurde, mehr Seitenlinienschuppen hat. Westlicher Pazifik: China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Singapur, Nordaustralien; möglicherweise auch in Westmalaysia und Sulawesi.
