Etymologie
Von trigonos (= dreieckig); nectes (= Schwimmer), bezieht sich auf "kleine keilförmige Schulen, in denen [cyprinodontide] Fische dieser Art so oft an der Oberfläche schwimmend gesehen werden" (nach Myers, 1927). (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
