Etymologie
Altus (= hoch); velum (= Segel), wahrscheinlich in Anlehnung an seine große und lange Rückenflosse, die sich fast über die gesamte Rückenlänge erstreckt. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Ostpazifik: südöstliche Beringsee südlich bis Chile.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 29.11.2021:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Keine größeren Gefahren bekannt.
