Etymologie
Abgeleitet von tora, einem Namen, der „verschieden verändert oder korrumpiert oder mit verschiedenen Zusätzen als generische Bezeichnungen unter den Eingeborenen“ für große Fluss-Cypriniden des Ganges-Systems betrachtet werden kann. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Afghanistan, Pakistan, China, Nepal, Bhutan, Indien, Bangladesch und Myanmar.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 1.07.2021:EN Endangered (stark gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Eine Reihe von anthropogenen Auswirkungen, von denen der Verlust und die Zerstörung von Lebensräumen aufgrund der großen Anzahl bestehender und geplanter Wasserkraftprojekte im Himalaya-Gebirge die bedeutendste sind, hat in der Vergangenheit und in der Zukunft das weitere Überleben des Goldenen Mahseer beeinflusst. Zu den weiteren Bedrohungen zählen Überfischung, bei der häufig nicht nachhaltige Methoden angewendet werden (Sprengung, Vergiftung und Verwendung feinmaschiger Netze), und die Verschmutzung durch städtische und landwirtschaftliche Quellen sind ebenfalls ein erheblicher Stressfaktor.
