Etymologie
"Katana" bezieht sich auf ein japanisches Schwert mit gebogener Klinge, an das der lange Oberkiefer der Spezies an ein solches erinnert.
Verbreitung
Westlichen Pazifik: von Singapur bis Taiwan und vor den den Ogasawara-Inseln, Japan. Molekulare Hinweise deuten darauf hin dass die Art auch vor der Nordküste von Borneo und Java verbreitet ist. Die Art wird in Nordvietnam häufig frisch (zum Verzehr) vermarktet und ist ein häufiger Garnelenbeifang vor Südwest-Taiwan.
