Etymologie

Aus dem Griechischen steno, schmal, und Lebias eine nominelle Killifisch-Gattung, die üblicherweise zum Verfassen von generischen Namen der Familie Rivulidae verwendet wird, in Anspielung auf die schlanke Körper der Arten dieser Gattung.
