Typusfundort: Vor dem nördlichen Madagaskar, 15°24.14′S, 46°1.51′E (Karte).
Etymologie
Das Epithet mahia ist aus dem Madagassischen und bedeutet dünn oder sehr dünn, in Bezug auf die besonderen morphologischen Merkmale dieser Art.
Verbreitung
Diese Art kommt im westlichen Indischen Ozean von den Socotra Inseln und nördlichen Madagaskar bis zur Algoa Bucht, Eastern Cape in Südafrika vor.
