Etymologie
Benannt zu Ehren des Fischereibiologen William Francis Thompson (1888-1965), University of Washington (Seattle, USA), der in Zusammenarbeit mit Jordan diese Art 1914 als Sebastes joyneri meldete. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
