Etymologie
Gefranst, bezieht sich auf Schuppen mit Fransen (d.h., gestreiften, gezähnten oder eingekerbten) Rändern. (aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Indo-West Pacifik, von der westlichen Küstenlinie der indischen Halbinsel bis Neu Guinea im Osten (Whitehead, 1985). S. fimbriata und sein westlicher naher Verwandter S. albella haben ein sich überlappendes Verbreitungsgebiet in der Bucht von Bengalen.
