Paratypen: 78.
Typusfundort: Tokashiku Bay, Tokashiki-jima island, Kerama Islands, Okinawa, 5–7 m Tiefe.

Etymologie

Der spezifische Name novaluna leitet sich von lateinisch ab und bedeutet "Neumond", bezogen auf den subdermalen schwarzen Fleck an der unteren Schwanzstielhälfte.

Verbreitung

Derzeit aus dem westlichen Pazifik bekannt, einschließlich Japan, den Marshall-Inseln, Indonesien, Papua-Neuguinea, den Salomonen, Australien und Fidschi. Sammlungsdaten umfassen Erfassungstiefen von 3-32 m.
