Typusfundort: Westküste, Riff etwa 2 Meilen nördlich von Flic en Flac, Mauritius, Tiefe 53 m.
Etymologie
Uni- (= eins); marginatus (= gesäumt oder umrandet), bezieht sich auf den farbigen breiten Rand dorsal auf dem oberen Schwanzflossenlappen (aber nicht auf beiden Lappen wie bei Pyronotanthias bimarginatus, der in derselben Arbeit beschrieben wird). (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Westlicher Indischer Ozean: endemisch für Mauritius.
