Etymologie
Xiru ist ein Tupí-Guaraní-Wort für „ein alter weiser Indianer“, ein Ehrenzeichen, das auf dem Land im brasilianischen Bundesstaat Rio Grande do Sul verwendet wird, wo diese art vorkommt. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Brasilien und Argentinien: Rio Jacuí-Einzugsgebiet, Laguna dos Patos-System sowie Einzugsgebiet des oberen und mittleren Rio Uruguay, Rio Grande do Sul und Santa Catarina.
