Typusfundort: Rossmeer, 74°25'S, 179°03'E (Karte), und McMurdo Sound, 76°56'S, 164°12'S und 77°13'S, 164°18'E, (Karte), Antarktis, Tiefe 158-207 Faden (ca 289-379 m).
Etymologie
Benannt nach Regan 1916, zu Ehren von Edward Ratcliffe Garth Russell Evans (1880-1957), Kapitän der Terra Nova, Britische Antarktis-Expedition (1910-1913), während der die Typusexemplare gesammelt wurden (Miller, 1993, History and Atlas of the Fishes of the Antarctic Ocean, gibt fälschlicherweise an, dass diese Art nach Hugh Blackwell Evans, "überlebender Expeditionsbiologe" der Southern Cross Expedition in die Antarktis, 1898-1900, benannt ist).
