Grund für die Gefährdungseinstufung: Die Hauptbedrohung für diese Art ist der Handel mit Zierfischen in Iquitos, gefolgt von den Auswirkungen auf den Lebensraum des lokalen Verbrauchs und der Wasserverschmutzung. Das Töten aufgrund des Einsatzes von Sprengstoffen zum Fischen anderer Arten ist ebenfalls eine Bedrohung.
