Etymologie
Miles (= Soldat, bedeutet hier aber „kriegerisch“ (Goode & Bean 1896)), bezieht sich vermutlich auf zahlreiche Stacheln im interorbitalen Raum des Kopfes. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Status: Stand 20.09.2021:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Es gibt derzeit keine Bedrohung für Porogadus miles. Es handelt sich um eine sehr tief lebende Art, von der angenommen wird, dass die anthropogenen Einflüsse derzeit auf ein Minimum beschränkt sind. Aber diese Tiefseeökosysteme sind gefährdet, hauptsächlich aufgrund der Ablagerung von festen Abfällen, der biologischen Ernte und der Mineraliengewinnung und des Klimawandels (d.h. global) und durch regionale Tiefseezirkulationsstörungen sowie Nährstoffschichtungen und -isolierungen in der Wassersäule, die alle die Biota der Tiefsee maßgeblich beeinflussen werden.
