Typusfundort: angelandet im Cochin Fischerei-Hafen (CFH), Kochi, Kerala, Südindien, 09°58'N, 76°14'E (Karte). Als Beifang der Tiefsee-Langleinenfischerei für (Centrophorus spp.) Zwischen 200 und 1000 m Tiefe.
Etymologie
Der Name der Art bezieht sich auf den Typusfundort vor Indien im nördlichen Indischen Ozean, wo die Art vorkommt.
Verbreitung
Zurzeit wird Planonasus indicus vor Kochi, Kerala, Südindien, zwischen 200 und 1000 m und von vor Sri Lanka zwischen 300 und 600 m Tiefe bestätigt, wo ein weiteres Exemplar gefangen, aber nicht behalten wurde (Ebert et al. 2017), das aufgrund seiner allgemeinen Morphologie und seines Vorkommens als Planonasus indicus re-identifiziert wurde. Eine Planonasus-Art von den Malediven, die Planonasus indicus sehr ähnlich ist, wenn nicht sogar mit ihr identisch zu sein scheint, könnte eine Bereichserweiterung darstellen.
