Etymologie
Der Name der Art leitet sich von den lateinischen Wörtern filis (= Faden) und pendulus (= hängend) ab und bezieht sich auf eines der charakteristischen Merkmale der Art: ihren kraftlosen Strahl in der Brustflosse (im Gegensatz zum starren Strahl bei Photonectes margarita).
Verbreitung
Pazifik (Hawai-Region), Südchinesisches Meer und um Japan.
