Paratypus: (1) USNM 93166 (1, ursprünglich zusammen im Glas mit dem Holotypus, später separiert, ist nun Paralectotypus USNM 410302.
Typusfundort: off northern Mindanao Island, R/V Albatross sta. D.5516; Tiefe: 175 fms [320 m].
Etymologie
Eine Kombination der griechischen Wörter dory (= Speer) und pteron (= Flosse), die nach Fowler (1934) "mit Bezug auf die langen spitzen weichen vertikalen Flossen" gewählt wurden.
