Typusfundort: vor Kochi City, zentrale Tosa-Bucht, Südjapan und Kii-Kanal vor Japan und dem Ostchinesischen Meer in etwa 120-250 m; wahrscheinlich weit verbreitet auf dem Kontinentalschelf der südlichen Region des japanischen Archipels.
Etymologie
Tri (= drei); macula (= Fleck), in Bezug auf die drei großen Flecken auf der Rückenflosse des Holotypus.
Verbreitung
Westlicher Pazifik: Japan und Ostchinesisches Meer.
