Etymologie
Von oura (= Schwanz); lophus (= Mähne oder Kamm), der sich auf erhöhte hintere Abschnitte vertikaler (Rücken- und After-) Flossen bezieht (die wie bei allen Aalen am Schwanz zusammenlaufen). (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Westpazifik und südöstlicher Indischer Ozean: Japan, Taiwan, Philippinen, Indonesien und Nordwestaustralien.
