Etymologie
Der Name Notholebias ist eine Anspielung auf die oberflächliche Ähnlichkeit zwischen Fischarten, die jetzt in der neuen Gattung eingeschlossen sind und einigen Arten der afrikanischen Killifish-Gattung Nothobranchius Peters, 1868, im Besonderen Nothobranchius lourensi Wildekamp, 1977, die ähnliche Farbmuster und ähnliche Körperproportionen hat (aus dem Griechischen nothos = falsch, genommen vom Namen Nothobranchius und lebias = kleiner Fisch, ein Name, der häufig verwendet wird, um Gattungsnamen von rivuliden Fischarten zu bilden).
