Etymologie
Von leptos (= klein oder schlank); cephalus (= Kopf), bezieht sich auf kleinere Köpfe im Vergleich zu Ceratichthys (= Hybopsis) amblops. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Nordamerika: Atlantik- und Golfabflüsse vom Shenandoah River in Virginia bis zum Mississippi River in Mississippi; Nebenflüsse des Mississippi River nördlich des Yazoo River-Systems in Mississippi; obere New River Abflüsse in West Virginia, Virginia und North Carolina, USA; Bear Creek (Tennessee River Abfluss) in Alabama und Mississippi. Einführung in die Systeme Little Tennessee River und French Broad in North Carolina und Tennessee, USA.
