Etymologie
-oides (= mit der Form von:) lykos (= gr. für "Wolf"), was (nach Reinhardt 1837) auf eine gewisse Ähnlichkeit (insbesondere der Zähne) und eine vermutete enge Verwandtschaft mit dem "Seewolf", Anarhichas lupus (Anarhichadidae), hinweist. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
