Etymologie
Leptos (= dünn oder länglich), Anspielung nicht erklärt, vermutlich mit Bezug auf die Körperform; Panchax (= Aplocheilus), eine aplocheiloide Gattung, als Anhang der häufig beim Bilden von Gattungsnamen von Killifischen verwendet wird. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
