Typusfundort: angesische Provinzen und Ava, Indien.
Etymologie
Vermutlich ein lokaler bengalischer Name, da es Hamiltons Praxis war, Trivialnamen "von einigen der von den Ureinwohnern Indiens verwendeten" abzuleiten. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Asien: Indien, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka; in Asien als Besatz weit verbreitet worden.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 6.10.2018:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Grund für die Gefährdungseinstufung: Keine großen Gefahren für diese Art bekannt.
