Etymologie
Aus dem Griechischen hypsi, hoch, und lebias (kleiner Fisch), eine nominelle Killifisch-Gattung, die üblicherweise zum Verfassen von generischen Namen der Familie Rivulidae verwendet wird, eine Anspielung zum hohen Körper der Arten dieser neuen Untergattung.
