Etymologie

Von di- (= zwei); ptero (= Flosse); oura (= Schwanz), unter Bezugnahme auf „auffällige Hautfalte unten [am Schwanz] und eine kleinere, aber auffälligere oben“. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Verbreitung

Zentralpazifik: Hawaii-Inseln; östlicher Pazifik: Galapagos-Archipel und Kalifornien (USA) südlich bis Chile.
