Etymologie
Benannt zu Ehren des Entomologen Vernon Lyman Kellogg (1867-1937), Jordans Kollege an der Stanford University. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Westlicher Pazifik: Philippinen bis Südjapan, südlich bis New South Wales (Australien); Bucht von Bengalen (Indien).

Gefahren für diese Art: Hipocampus kelloggi ist in seinem gesamten Verbreitungsgebiet durch Beifang in zahlreichen handwerklichen und kommerziellen Fischereien bedroht, und dies ist die größte Bedrohung für diese Art. Auch wenn pro Aufwandseinheit nur wenige Exemplare gefangen werden, ist die Zahl der entnommenen Individuen erheblich. Die Art kann auch gezielt für den Aquarienfischhandel genutzt werden. Zerstörerische Fischereipraktiken wie Dynamitfischerei und Schleppnetzfischerei bedrohen ebenfalls den Lebensraum der Art. Die Lebensgeschichte und die ökologischen Eigenschaften des Seepferdchens können seine Anfälligkeit für diese Bedrohungen erhöhen.
