Etymologie
Das koreanische Wort Haema bedeutet "Seepferdchen", was suggeriert, dass es repräsentativ und häufig ist. Daher wurde der wissenschaftliche und koreanische Namen Haema ausgewählt, um darauf hinzuweisen, dass dieses Seepferdchen das am häufigsten in Korea gefundene ist. Der japanische Name Himetatsu bedeutet "Prinzessin Seepferdchen" oder "Zwerg-Seepferdchen", und bezieht sich auf seine kleinere Krone und den kleineren Körper im Vergleich zu Hippocampus coronatus.
Verbreitung
Korea: südliche und südöstliche Küsten der koreanischen Halbinsel (von Soan Island nach Ulsan); Japan: Westküste von Kyushu (westliche Präfektur Kagoshima), nordwestliche Küste von Honshu (von der Präfektur Kyoto bis zur Präfektur Akita) Lebt im schwimmendem Sargassum und in Seegraswiesen von 0-18 m Tiefe.

Grund für die Gefährdungseinstufung: Hippocampus coronatus ist nicht das Ziel in einer Fischerei und der Umfang des Handels mit dieser Art scheint niedrig zu sein. Seegras-Lebensräume sind in der Region durch Küstenentwicklung und nachfolgende Verschmutzung sowie durch destruktive Fangmethoden wie Schleppnetzfischerei bedroht. Der Umfang und die Schwere dieser Bedrohungen und wie sie sich auf die Art auswirken, wurden nicht quantifiziert, aber es wird nicht angenommen, dass sie sich Schwellenwerten nähern, die einen bedrohten Status für H. coronatus anzeigen würden.
