Typusfundort: Seaberg "B", nördliche Norfolk Ridge, südöstlich von Neukaledonien, 24°54'S, 168°22'E (Karte), 535–545 m Tiefe.
Etymologie
Benannt zu Ehren von Dr. Clive D. Roberts (NMNZ) für seinen "beträchtlichen" Beitrag zur Ichthyologie, der an einer gemeinsamen französisch-neuseeländischen Forschungsexpedition in das tiefe Wasser vor Neukaledonien teilnahm, und zusammen mit seinem Co-Autor Christopher David Paulin als erster offiziell über diese Art berichtete (als Euclichthys polynemus: Roberts & Paulin 1997).
Verbreitung
Bekannt aus der Tiefesee vor Neukaledonien über Seebergen entlang des nördlichen Sektors des Norfolk Ridge in Tiefen von 494–920 m, vom australischen Kontinentalabhang vor Danger Point, Süd-Queensland (28°00'S, 153°58'E), südlich von Gabo Island, Ost-Victoria (37°45'S, 150°13'E) in Tiefen von 410–485 m; Weitere Euclichthys (vermutlich E. robertsi) wurden vor Sydney, Ostaustralien zwischen 503–512 m und vor Jervis Bay, Ostaustralien aus 732–768 m Tiefe gesammelt. Zwei kleine Jungtiere wurden vor der Insle Lord Howe, Tasmanische See (31°46'S, 159°21'E; 34°11'S, 162°39'E) von Schleppnetzstationen gesammelt, die weite Tiefenbereiche zwischen 445–960 m abdecken.
