Etymologie
Micro- (= klein); stomus (= Maul), bezieht sich auf das "ziemlich kleine" Maul, "die Länge des Oberkiefers entspricht nur einem Viertel der Länge und die des Unterkiefers zwei Fünftel der Kopflänge". (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Westlicher Atlantik: Kanada bis North Carolina bis Mississippi, USA, einschließlich des nördlichen Golfs von Mexiko.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 17.8.2022:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Es sind keine größeren Bedrohungen für diese Art bekannt. Sie wird nicht gezielt befischt, aber als Beifang in einigen Schleppnetzfischereien gefangen. Dies wird derzeit nicht als große Bedrohung angesehen.
