Etymologie
Das Matronym wurde nicht identifiziert, möglicherweise zu Ehren von Heckels Mutter Sophia; Wildekamp (1993) und Huber (2007) geben an, dass dieser Name Sophia, Kaiserin des Österreichisch-Ungarischen Reiches, ehrt (vermutlich Prinzessin Sophie von Bayern, 1805-1872), geben jedoch keine Quelle für diese Erklärung an.).
