Etymologie
Aeneus (= Bronze), von einer Abbildung beschrieben, vermutlich in Anlehnung an grünlich-bronzefarbene Körperfarbe. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Mittelmeer; Marmarameer; Ostatlantik: Galicien (Spanien) und Portugal südlich bis Angola, einschließlich Madeira, Kanarische Inseln, Kapverdische Inseln sowie São Tomé und Principe.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 26.07.2021:NT Near Threatened (potenziell gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Überfischung ist eine große Bedrohung für diese Art. Der Fischereiaufwand in allen Fischereisektoren ist in Westafrika übertrieben, häufig nicht erfasst und oft illegal. Auch im östlichen Mittelmeer hat der hohe wirtschaftliche Wert von E. aeneus zu einem Anstieg des Fischereidrucks und sogar zu einem Anstieg der illegalen Fischerei und eines Schwarzmarktes geführt.
