Typusfundort: Insel Fernando Póo [Bioco Island], Äquatorialguinea, Golf von Guinea.
Etymologie
Von camptos (= gebogen); akanthus (= Dorn), bezogen auf flexiblere Rückenflosse im Vergleich zu anderen Puntius (der Gattung, in der die art ursprünglich beschrieben wurde). (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Westliches Zentral-Afrika: weit verbreitet von Kamerun bis zum Chiloango-Becken. Verbreitung reicht nach Westen bis zum Niger-Delta, auch im Dja-Einzug (mittleres Kongobecken). Scheint nicht im Westen des Niger zu vorgedrungen zu sein.
