Etymologie
Kyphos (= bucklig), bezogen auf den konvexen prädorsalen Körperteil bei größeren erwachsenen Exemplaren; lebias (= griechischer Name für eine Art kleinen Fisch), wurde zuerst von Cuvier (1816) auf Killifische („Les Lebias“) angewendet und ist jetzt eine gebräuchliche Wurzelnamenbildung in der Ordnung.
