Etymologie

cyno-, Hund, sich auf die Eckzähne von Cynolebias porosus beziehend; lebias, griechischer Name für kleine Fische, wurde zuerst von Cuvier (1816) auf Killifische („Les Lebias“) angewendet und ist heute eine gebräuchliche Stammname der Ordnung Cyprinodontiformes (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project).
