Typen
Holotypus: BMNH 1982.6.8.1.
Typusfundort: Ca. 200 Meilen westlich von Cape Farewell, Neuseeland, 400 Faden Tiefe.
Etymologie
Von armatus (= bewaffnet mit einer Waffe), vermutlich auf den stachligen zweiten Strahl (oder Stachel) der ersten Rückenflosse bezogen, "umhüllt in einer Scheide, die zu einem Faden verlängert wird". (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Grund für die Gefährdungseinstufung: Coryphaenoides armatus ist keine gezielt kommerziell gefangene Art, kommt aber als Beifang in der Tiefseefischerei vor. Dies stellt aber keine große Bedrohung dar.
